PCST: round table on "Diversity and inclusion in academic research in science communication"

Today at 5:30PM local time, a round table on "Diversity and inclusion in academic research in science communication" will be held at the PCST conference in Zacatecas, Mexico.

The symposium will see the participation of the editor in chief of JCOMAL, Luisa Massarani (Instituto Nacional de Comunicação Pública da Ciência e Tecnologia; Fiocruz, Brazil), Yurij Castelfranchi (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil) and Ana Claudia Nepote (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Campus Morelia), and will be moderated by Paola Rodari (SISSA Medialab, Italy).

Abstract:

Scientific studies published in languages other than English can be invisible to researchers and other stakeholders. This is particularly true when we are referring to research in science communication, a relatively new field around the globe, which non English-speaking countries have played an important role to consolidate. In this symposium, we will be addressing the issue of diversity and inclusion and the role that JCOMAL (Journal of Science Communication - América Latina) may play in the field.
JCOM América Latina is a diamond open access, peer reviewed journal focused on studies in science communication made in Latin America and/or by Latin Americans. The journal covers a broad range of issues pertinent to science communication and public engagement with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), including citizen science as well as environmental and health communication, where these relate to communication of research.
