As soon as an editor selects a referee, the JCOM América Latina software automatically sends the referee an e-mail notification
In reviewing preprints, referees should attend to the standards of the JCOM América Latina editorial policy
JCOM América Latina referees must be registered users.
If you are not yet a registered user, and an editor decides to consult you, you will receive an e-mail with the necessary instructions to complete your registration in order to accept or decline online the Editor's review request.
If you cannot remember your registration data, please do not register again, rather click on "Forgot your username?"/ "Forgot your password?" on the home page. You can update your profile and login data by clicking on "modify my personal data".
Communication tools are available on each page to communicate with the Editorial Office. Please always use these tools instead of normal e-mail. These messages will be saved in the database and associated with the document to which they refer, which is crucial for the efficiency of the editorial procedure.
Timing for processing contributions |
Referees and editors are expected to follow the guidelines below.
Editors are consulted immediately upon receipt of a submission and should select two or more referees within 5 days.
If the Editor does not react within this time, a reminder will automatically be sent. Continued failure to respond will result in notification to the Editor in Chief, who will decide on the most appropriate course of action.
Referees should accept/decline to review a manuscript within 5 days of the Editor's request. Automatic reminders will be sent in case of lack of response.
If referees do not respond despite the reminders, editors may select additional reviewers.
Referees should review manuscripts within 3 weeks of receiving the Editor's request to review.
On the basis of the referee report(s), the final editor report is produced and an editorial decision taken on whether the submission is acceptable for publication.
The referee web page |
Pending preprints in the referee pages are divided into sections displayed like an index:
To access the contribution's status page you must click the contribution's preprint ID (for example JCOMAL_001A_1018).
When a preprint is assigned to you as a referee, you are kindly requested to click "accept/decline assignment" at the bottom of the preprint status page. This is to make sure you have read the Editor's review request and to inform them on whether you will be able to review the submission in the requested time frame.
To upload your report, please click "send report" and paste it into the "report" box below the "cover letter".
My reviews section: these are all the contributions which you have been asked to review. You can access all the versions of the preprint for which you have served as reviewers. As far as published contributions are concerned, you cannot see the final version in the referee's section. However, this is accessible to all readers on JCOM América Latina's website.
How to write the report |
To be considered for publication in JCOM América Latina, contributions must contain significant new material, must be of high quality and scientific interest, and must be on subject matters covered by the journal (please see the keywords).
The report should indicate quite clearly whether - in your opinion - the contribution can be published, should be rejected or needs modifications before it can be published.
Your report must be prepared according to the guidelines in How to write the report and should be prepared as a separate file in order to save it from possible system failures.
When you are ready to upload your report, please click "send report" and paste it into the appropriate form. Please remember not to sign it otherwise the Authors will learn your identity: the Editor-in-charge will be informed about your name by the system. A standard, editable message addressed to the Editor is also available on the report web page. Here, you will be asked to summarize the contributions's evaluation and give your recommendations for the editorial decision. Finally complete the upload of your contributions's evaluation and of your report by clicking the button "send report" again.
On the grounds of the referee reports received, the Editor makes a final decision and send a final report to the Authors.
Referees may be asked to review revised contributions. The review procedure is the same as in the first round. You can see any previous reports of yours and any other document associated to the preprint that the Editor-in-charge has asked you to review (referee reports by other referees, cover letters, editor reports...) in the section "all versions".
Please remember to edit out of your report - if present - any personal details about yourself or the Editor, as this part of the report needs to be completely anonymous. Should you be wishing to send the Editor any annotated pdf files of the Author's contribution containing your suggested corrections, please be so kind as to mention this in your report and then send the anonymized file via email to the Editorial Office who will then take care of forwarding it to the Editor and Authors.
