RedPOP Conference and JCOM America Latina

From 9 to 13 September, Mexico will host the 19th Latin American Congress of the Network for the Popularization of Science and Technology (RedPOP) in the city of Puebla. More than 500 professionals in the field of science popularization and communication will participate in the event, celebrating the 35-year history of this network, which brings together collective initiatives and professionals in science communication in the region. The congress offers a rich programme with more than 30 activities over four days on the theme of ‘Living Science: connecting minds and communities’. The conference will be held at the Public Autonomous University of the State of Puebla.

The conference considered 13 threads for the presentation of papers and discussion panels. As part of the ‘Research and Evaluation’ thread, the Journal of Science Communication América Latina will be present at a round table entitled ‘Publishing in JCOM América Latina to connect minds and communities’. Several members of our journal's editorial team will participate in this round table: Luisa Massarani, from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Brazil) (editor-in-chief); Ana Claudia Nepote, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico; Susana Herrera-Lima, from the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Mexico); and Miguel García Guerrero, from the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (Mexico). This session is aimed at early-stage and established researchers, professionals involved in various training programmes in public communication of science, and students interested in learning about the challenges of developing this field through journal publications. We invite you to meet and talk with the editors in this session scheduled on Thursday, 11 September, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Space E1. Thanks to the sponsorship of JCOM América Latina, 16 registration scholarships for this conference were awarded to students from Mexico (11), Brazil (4), and Colombia (1).
