This study evaluates how a Mathematics Festival influences students’ attitudes toward the discipline in a secondary school in southern Chile. Using an adapted version of the Attitudes Toward Mathematics Inventory (ATMI), the research reveals a positive impact on students’ appreciation of mathematics. A novel finding was a motivational difference by gender, with an increase among male students and a decrease among female students. The results highlight the relevance of such festivals in strengthening positive perceptions of mathematics and the need for inclusive approaches..

Presences of Brazilian science and technology centres and museums in virtual environments: mapping and characterisation
This study maps and characterizes the presence of Brazilian Science and Technology Centers and Museums (CMCT) in the "virtual world", seeking to understand how they fit in and relate to the public in these environments. The websites and social media profiles of 185 CMCTs, selected from the guide published by the Brazilian Association of Science and Technology Museums and Centers, were explored, identifying initiatives for virtualizing collections and practices. The result was that 39% of the institutions are present in virtual environments, but this occurs in an erratic, dispersed and outdated manner, especially with limited interactivity or dialogicity.

What if there is still no vaccine? The importance of media behavior in adherence to non-pharmacological interventions (npis) during covid-19 in Brazil
This article investigates the role of media behavior in the adherence of Brazilians to the three main non-pharmacological measures (NPIs) endorsed by global health organizations against COVID-19: the use of face masks, social distancing, and frequent handwashing. Following the outbreak of a pandemic when vaccines are not yet available, the adoption of these behaviors may be the only effective measure against the threats of a new disease. Grounded in social cognitive theory, we examine the behavioral determinants of adherence to these measures in Brazil, a middle-income country marked by significant economic and informational inequalities. Brazil, one of the countries most severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, was led by former President Jair Bolsonaro, who showed little regard for the use of face masks and encouraged large gatherings at political events. Our findings, based on an online survey administered to a sample of 2,771 individuals, indicate that media-related determinants such as knowledge about COVID-19, the use of social and traditional media, and belief in a conspiracy theory regarding the origin of the coronavirus play a significant role in explaining adherence to preventive measures. In contrast, other determinants such as political preferences, sociodemographic characteristics, and environmental factors play a secondary role.

The necessary demarcation between informal education and PSC for research and practice
Scientific culture is expected as a result In the different modalities of science education, this is also a goal of public science communication (PSC), investigated in both cases with different theoretical and methodological approaches. Research in PSC focuses on the quality of products but in informal education it seeks to detect informal learning; both activities are also evaluable from their design, organization, mediation, etc. This article defines and delimits the members of this educational/communicative universe in science as a possible contribution to facilitate the evaluation of practice. -

Conceptual basis for the establishment of a Centre for Science Communication
Some research and surveys conducted in Mexico show that there is still a lack of knowledge on how to increase public engagement with science. Because of this, a study was carried out using conceptual frameworks of Science Communication for a Centre for Science Communication. Three axes are outlined: modalities WITH, FOR and BETWEEN the public; public engagement with science and science capital. At the same time, programmes are proposed to carry out activities and encourage awareness, interest, intrinsic motivation, enjoyment and understanding in order to contribute to scientific culture. -

Research on misinformation and science communication: a review of the Latin American literature
In this article, we aim to carry out a literature review of studies carried out in Latin America on misinformation and science communication, in particular academic articles on this theme. Our corpus consisted of 142 articles, identified in the databases Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions and Scielo. The results show that Brazil is the main stage of these analyses and appears in 65.5% of the corpus. It points to a concentration of research published from 2020, which correlate with the Covid-19 pandemic, being this the most studied theme (69.0%). The articles address digital social network studies (35.2%) and media studies (33.1%). We discuss the need to strengthen research among Latin American countries as a way to understand the specific nature of the circulation of science misinformation in the region and structure better ways to address it.

Divulgação científica no período colonial brasileiro: as cartas jesuíticas
